Cardinals QB Jacoby Brissett’s IG Story doesn’t squelch holdout concerns
Well, there’s a quarterback problem brewing in Arizona. A few days ago, Arizona Cardinals GM Monti Ossenfort and head coach Mike LaFleur refused to commit to a starting quarterback. The duo’s comments seemed to reference their draft plans, as their looking to take a quarterback in the 2026 NFL Draft. However, that move has ticked off the incumbent starting quarterback, Jacoby Brissett.
There are now concerns that Brissett might hold out to start the 2026 NFL season as he looks for a new contract. His latest activity on Instagram seems to indicate that as well. The Cardinals quarterback posted a clip of Ossenfort and LaFleur’s comments and added a bunch of laughing emojis.
Cardinals: We’re not naming any QB the starter.

Brissett told the team he’s not showing up for team activities without a contract that pays him as the starter. He’s set to make $9 Million in 2026.

On Thursday, Ossenfort said this about the Cardinals’ current quarterback situation.
“They both have played a lot of ball. As we sit here today, we’re trying to install a system,” Ossenfort said Thursday. “We’re not really naming anybody. We’ll see how that room looks by the time we get to August.”
A few days after that interview, it was reported that Brissett would be holding out of the Cardinals’ offseason activities. The reported reason was the quarterback’s decision to be paid like a starter. Brissett will be making $9.06 million next season and has just $1.5 million of that money guaranteed. The long-time veteran wants to make sure that he gets another payday.
Brissett last season took over for the injured Kyler Murray midway through the season. He started in 12 games last year, turning in a respectable season for himself. He finished the season with a career-high 3,366 passing yards while completing 64.9% of his passing attempts, throwing 23 touchdowns to eight interceptions. Brissett’s performance never quite translated to wins (going 1-11 on the season), but he did prove that he’s still an NFL starter.
With Brissett in his age-33 season, it makes sense that the Cardinals quarterback is looking to get paid handsomely for his efforts last season. However, with Gardner Minshew rostered as well and Arizona potentially drafting a quarterback this year, Brissett might not get the payday he wants from the team.
