Capitals’ Jordan Kyrou drops truth bomb after trade from Blues

It has been a busy week for the Washington Capitals. The team completed two massive trades, as the Capitals traded for Jordan Kyrou and Alex Tuch, improving the roster.

Now, Kyrou is speaking out about the trade, per Tom Gulitti of NHL.com.

“They were really pushing for me and it’s nice seeing a team really wanting me, and it just makes me excited to come join the organization,” Kyrou said. “I’ve also heard just from a lot of friends that it’s a great city, and great organization, a great fan base there, a lot of history, and I’m just excited to be coming.”

Kyrou was the 35th overall selection of the St. Louis Blues in the 2016 NHL Draft. He broke into the NHL in the 2018-19 season and established himself as a full-time player by the 2020-21 season. Kyrou has scored 27 or more goals in four of the last five seasons, while having 67 or more points in four of the last five years. He was also the subject of trade rumors over the last two seasons in St. Louis.

“I’ve loved St. Louis and I loved playing there,” he said. “I’ve had a great time there and a lot of great memories in my career. It’s sometimes just people need a fresh start and a change of scenery.”

Kyrou is now working with a reworked Capitals roster that has the young Protas brothers as well as Dylan Strome, Tom Wilson, and Pierre-Luc Dubois. It could also have Alex Ovechkin, whom Kyrou hopes to be playing with.

“Obviously, that’d be unbelievable,” he said. “He’s the greatest goal-scorer of all time, and I’ve heard nothing but great things about him. So, hopefully, he comes back for a year, and I get to meet him and play with him.”

If Ovi is back, it would be a huge win for the Caps, who look to return to the playoffs in 2026-27 after just missing out this past season.
