Canelo Alvarez tells Hamzah Sheeraz who he must face next to earn mega-fight in UK

Canelo Alvarez thinks Hamzah Sheeraz should fight Osleys Iglesias before a showdown is booked.

Mexican superstar Alvarez is being heavily linked with British giant Sheeraz, with the pair seemingly on a collision course to a clash at 168lbs.

Sheeraz became a world champion at the second time of asking as he battered overmatched Alem Begic into submission to capture the WBO super-middleweight world title.

And now the possibility of a huge showdown, potentially on British soil, could lay in waiting.

In the past Alvarez has opened the door to a bout insisting it would be on his radar.

But now he has set a new condition for Sheeraz to fulfil, a unification clash with IBF champion Iglesias.

He told Ring Magazine: “I think they [Sheeraz and Osleys] need to fight each other, and then I fight the winner.

“That’s the most smart thing they can do. We all need to earn what we deserve, and they need to earn it.

“I’m not saying they don’t deserve it, they deserve it.

“That’s why they are champions or number ones or whatever, but they need to fight each other, and then after my fight, we’ll see.”

Iglesias picked up the belt with a victory over Pavel Silyagin, after the belts fragmented following Terence Crawford‘s win over Alvarez.

He is a feared fighter at 168lbs and the tricky Cuban even believes Alvarez himself will avoid him.

Sheeraz vs Canelo in the UK?

Alvarez has never fought professionally on British shores, with the vast majority of his bouts landing in the US, Mexico and the Middle East.

He has been heavily linked with a UK appearance, particularly against Chris Eubank Jr, with the pair planned to meet last year.

Eubank Jr lost to Conor Benn and will first need to make a comeback planned in Australia later in 2026 before it is considered again.

And Sheeraz is now deemed the most likely option.

Alvarez is open to fighting away from the home comforts and going into the new champion’s back yard.

“Yeah, we’ll see after. Why not?,” he said.

“I have my fight on September 12, and he just had his fight, we’ll see. But why not?”

Alvarez will first need to snatch the WBC title from Christian Mbilli when the pair meet later this year.
