The Montreal Canadiens could not eliminate the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday night. They had the chance to advance to the East Final for the first time since 2014. However, Rasmus Dahlin was the star of the show for the visiting Sabres. And as a result, Martin St. Louis will need to lead his Habs into a Game 7.

The Canadiens played a very good first period, but the signs were there that the shoe was about to drop. Montreal managed just five shots on goal in the opening period. They scored three goals, sure. But once Buffalo changed goalies, Montreal had nothing to counter a motivated Sabres team.

“You have to give credit to the other side, they played a very good game. We didn’t have much calm or poise. It’s tough, you have to live through these moments to learn. These are stressful moments for players who want the result. It’s loud, there’s a lot of chaos, and tonight we didn’t see things clearly through that chaos. We are better than that. It wasn’t a good game for us,” St. Louis said on Saturday night, via Rocket Media reporter Chris Galanopoulos.

The Canadiens have been able to enjoy fantastic second periods in this game. However, Montreal was the one who broke down in the middle frame in Game 6. Buffalo scored three goals in the second period to take a 5-3 lead into the dressing room. They went on to add another three in the third period to close the game out.

Montreal and Buffalo will play their winner-take-all Game 7 on Monday night at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo.
