Canadiens’ Cole Caufield drops striking admission about tough Game 4 loss to Sabres

The Montreal Canadiens fell to the Buffalo Sabres in Game 4 on Tuesday night. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen slammed the door on the Habs to tie the series 2-2. The Canadiens had their chances, especially on the power play, but failed to cash in. Cole Caufield and his teammates could now face elimination with a loss in Game 6.

The chances the Habs had could come back to haunt them. Though this is the first true playoff run this group has been on, the team knows what these missed opportunities could mean. Caufield spoke about it during his postgame media availability.

“It’s frustrating,” Caufield said, via French-speaking outlet TVA Sports. “I feel like we played a really good game. There are definitely aspects of the game we can improve, but bad luck like that isn’t the kind of thing you want.”

The Canadiens had a total of seven power play chances in Game 4. Unfortunately, they only capitalized on one of them. Caufield scored with the man advantage to give his team a 2-1 lead at the time.

However, Montreal was unable to keep Buffalo at bay. Tage Thompson scored a weird goal in the second period to tie the game 2-2. In the third, birthday boy Zach Benson scored the second Sabres power play goal of the night to put his team ahead for good.

Buffalo and Montreal are headed south of the border for a very pivotal Game 5. The Habs had momentum after recent blowout wins. Now, the puck is squarely in the Sabres’ court. How Caufield and his teammates respond could dictate who comes out victorious in this series.
