Cameron Menzies gives positive update on hand injury after admitting he ‘feared the worst’

Cameron Menzies has provided a positive update on the hand injury he suffered at the PDC World Championship back in December.

Menzies exited the competition in the first round of the tournament last year as he fell to a defeat to youngster Charlie Manby.

However, the Scot reacted furiously, punching his drinks table to leave his hand bloodied and bruised.

To compound matters, Menzies, who later apologised for the incident, also put out a pyrotechnic with his hand before leaving the stage.

The incident caused nerve damage to his right hand and he underwent surgery the following day.

“After losing the fight with the table, I went for an operation the next day,” Menzies said in a statement at the time.

“They checked the tendons and the nerves, so I was lucky not to sever any, but I did damage a few.

“When it’s cold, I get a lot of issues, it goes numb, I get pins and needles.

“When it’s warm, it’s not perfect, but where I hold the dart isn’t where the nerve damage is.

“The damage is on the inside of my finger and I hold the dart on the outside, so nine times out of ten it’s fine.

“When my hand’s cold, I get problems, it goes numb, it gets sore, pins and needles, so I keep a hand warmer in my bag. But we’re in Germany, it’s about 21 degrees, so I’m fine.”

And as he continues his recovery, Menzies has provided a positive update on the injury.

“I can actually feel my fingers now,” he told Online Darts.

“The hand specialist said I was lucky I hadn’t done a lot more damage because they feared the worst.

“That’s why I went for the operation, because they thought I might never have feeling in my hand.

“But they checked all the nerves and tendons and said I’d just badly bruised them. I never severed any.

“So, stupid thing I’d done but I’ve got away with it. It could have been a lot worse.”

Menzies was most recently in action at the International Darts Open in Germany, but fell to a 7-0 defeat to Ross Smith on Sunday night.
