Caleb Wilson reveals childhood admiration for Nikola Jokic

After the NBA Draft Lottery on Mother’s Day, North Carolina forward Caleb Wilson is making the case for his talents at the NBA Draft Combine at Wintrust Arena in Chicago from May 10 to 17. While there, Wilson expressed his idea of the player he wants to emulate, his idol, the face of the Denver Nuggets, Nikola Jokic.

At a press conference at the Combine, Wilson talked about what Jokic has meant to him growing up, per DNVR Nuggets.

“I really like Jokic,” he said. “He was my favorite player, even before his MVP. I really wasn’t that athletic when I was younger, believe it or not.”

There are obvious similarities between Wilson and Jokic. Both are 6-foot-10 and have extraordinary length, size, and strength. Additionally, both are known for their versatility, playmaking, and high basketball IQ.

Also, Jokic has emerged more as a greater athlete in recent years.

Jokic finished the 2025-26 season averaging 27.7 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 10.7 assists per game. The Nuggets lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the NBA Playoffs in six games.

Wilson is coming off a record-breaking season at North Carolina. He averaged 19.8 points and 9.4 rebounds in 24 games with the Tar Heels. In the process, Wilson set freshman records for the most 20+ point games (17) and scoring in double figures (24). Additionally, Wilson shot 57.8% from the field.

Wilson is predicted to be the No.4 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. The Chicago Bulls will receive the No.4 pick.

Meanwhile, the 2026 NBA Draft is scheduled for June 23 to 24 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
