Caitlin Clark, Kate Martin share heartwarming reunion after Fever-Sparks

Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever notched their first win of the season after beating the Los Angeles Sparks, 87-78, at Crypto.com Arena on Wednesday.

The Fever dropped their first assignment after bowing to the Dallas Wings, 107-104, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, ruining Clark’s much-awaited return from various injuries.

The 24-year-old guard made sure that it won’t happen again versus the Sparks, tallying 24 points, four rebounds, nine assists, and two steals. She, however, struggled from three-point territory, going just 1-of-7.

Still, she was pleased with their victory, especially after reuniting with Kate Martin, who was acquired by the Sparks after being waived by the Golden State Valkyries. They shared a warm moment on the floor after the final buzzer.

The 25-year-old Martin is out with a quad injury.

Clearly, she and Clark have remained close despite parting ways after being teammates at Iowa for several years.

Their mutual support for each other has not waned, as Clark has kept tabs on Martin, even though she admitted that staying up to watch the Valkyries last season was difficult because of the time zone.

“I watch quite a few of their games, most that I can. It’s sometimes a little too late for me. I only catch sometimes just the first half. But it’s great to see,” said Clark in a video shared by CBS Sports Bay Area’s Matt Lively in 2025.

That might not change with Martin’s move to Los Angeles.

The Sparks have yet to win this season after falling to the Las Vegas Aces, 105-78, on Sunday.

Up next for the Fever are the Washington Mystics on Friday.
