Championship club granted permission to build ‘vomitory’ at stadium
Burnley have been granted permission to build a ‘vomitory’ at Turf Moor by the local council.
The Clarets, who are back in the Championship this season, will now create a new access point in the Barnfield Stand.

Despite suggesting that it has something to do with sick that isn’t the case at all.
A vomitory is simply a large passageway or staircase designed to help large crowds enter and leave a venue quickly.
The origins of the word are Latin and descend from ‘vomere’, which means to spew forth.
The plan is for this to be a staircase making the upper part of the stand easier to access.
It will also serve as a fire escape and is expected to be all weather.
Plans detail that the structure will be covered in black metal cladding, with the inside containing Burnley’s crest.
However, construction of the ‘vomitory’ could be delayed due to the possibility of coal beneath the ground.
Burnley Council have approved the plans but on the condition that the Coal Mining Authority inspect before anything is constructed due to concerns over stability.
In a statement, the Coal Mining Authority said: “While the proposed development is a relatively lightweight structure any increased loading could induce further instability of the workings.”
They added that an inspection would need to be conducted: “This investigation should comprise a series of at least three boreholes advanced approximately 15m into solid bedrock.”

Other changes
The addition of a ‘vomitory’ isn’t the only change happening at Turf Moor.
The club are planning to install some LED signage outside of the ground on Harry Potts Way.
There are also controversial plans to allow the club to close roads around the ground on matchdays.
New season, high hopes
Meanwhile, on the pitch, Burnley are looking to bounce back from Premier League relegation last year with promotion.
Scott Parker is gone and he has been replaced by Nicky Hayen, who got off to a winning start at the weekend.
The EFL kicked off the season with the Carabao Cup first round, and Hayen’s side were at home to Notts County.
They needed penalties, but they did see off the League One side, winning 4-3 in the shootout after a 1-1 draw.
After the game, Hayen felt his players weren’t aggressive enough in their opener.
He said: “We want to have creativity in the final third. But not only creativity, we also need deep runs.
“It’s something that we worked on last week and we still have to improve these kinds of things.
“Sometimes we want to make it too nice. We have the space, play the ball or bring the ball in front of the goal. Now, we want to play too nice and then suddenly you lose the ball and you have a transition moment that you sprint 70 metres back.
“So this is something that we have to increase. Let’s say play more clinical and not only too fancy, but it will come by the weeks.”
Certainly, they’ll have to be sharper for their opening Championship match this weekend.
