Bears’ Ben Johnson gunning for Peyton Manning’s Broncos, Tom Brady’s Patriots in record books

After winning the NFC North in 2025, head coach Ben Johnson and the Chicago Bears are entering 2026 with lofty expectations. Johnson in particular is looking to produce an offense the NFL has never seen before.

As it stands, the 2013 Denver Broncos hold the record for points per game in a season with 37.9. In Johnson’s mind, there is no reason the Bears can’t surpass that number, via Dan Pompei of the Athletic.

“You’ve got 31 other teams coming to training camp saying, ‘Our goal is to win the Super Bowl,’” Johnson said. “I want more than that. I want to have the highest-scoring offense ever, which happens to be the 2013 Denver Broncos. I know how many points per game they scored (37.9), and I want to surpass them. I want shutouts. I want blowouts.”

With quarterback Caleb Williams having a better understanding of what Johnson wants to run, his offensive goals become much more realistic. The franchise has built their offense around him, bolstering the offensive line and adding a litany of potent pass catchers to target. If Williams is able to further live up to his No. 1 pick potential, the Bears will only be in a stronger place.

Beyond just offensive success, Johnson is looking to win football games. Chicago’s 11 in 2025 were their most since 2018. The Bears are still a work in progress and growing every day. But when they reach their peak, the head coach sees the potential to go on a win streak that mirrors the New England Patriots’ 21 straight from 2003-2004.

Overall, Johnson is preaching to the franchise that their ceiling is limitless.

“Why can’t we do that?” Johnson said. “There has never been an undefeated season (since teams have been playing more than 14 regular-season games). The moon is the Super Bowl, but we’re shooting beyond that, for the stars. And I want these players to feel that each and every single day they come in.”
