Broncos’ Quinn Meinerz one of first athletes to make ‘Abolish ICE’ call

Denver Broncos All-Pro guard Quinn Meinerz is using his NFL Playoffs platform to become one of the first athletes to publicly speak out against ICE. The 27-year-old appeared to be reacting to the fatal shooting in Minnesota on Saturday ahead of the Broncos’ AFC Championship Game matchup with the New England Patriots.

In a now-deleted Instagram Story, Meinerz revealed his opposition to ICE by reposting a graphic from the far-left clothing brand CHNGE. The graphic called attention to the killing of Minnesota resident Alex Pretti on Saturday and ended with the statement, “ABOLISH ICE.”

Meinerz’s post was discovered and shared by ESPN’s Mina Kimes on the social media platform Bluesky before it was deleted.

Pretti lived in Minnesota but is originally from Green Bay, Wisconsin. Meinerz was born and raised in Hartford, Wisconsin, and played collegiately at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Meinerz’s post went up within hours of the Broncos’ upcoming game against the Patriots.

By doing so, Meinerz became one of the first athletes to speak out against ICE since the third shooting in Minnesota in the last month. Indiana Pacers guard Tyrese Haliburton, WNBA star Breanna Stewart, Utah Jazz forward Kyle Anderson, and others notably voiced their displeasure with the situation.

Meinerz is not an outspoken player, but he is never afraid to give his thoughts on controversial topics. He has been seen wearing t-shirts reading “End gun violence” and “Men of quality don’t fear equality” while walking to games.

Meinerz is two weeks removed from his second consecutive first-team All-Pro nod. The $80 million guard was also named to his first Pro Bowl at the end of the regular season.
