Tobias Harris says quiet part out loud about Pistons’ ‘casual’ play vs. Magic
The Detroit Pistons flipped from heavy Eastern Conference favorites to now facing elimination. Detroit took a new brutal loss to the Orlando Magic 94-88 Wednesday. The likes of Tobias Harris and company are officially one loss away from ending the NBA Playoffs early.
And Harris said the quiet part out loud about the way Detroit is playing. Even briefly describing it as “casual” with reporters postgame.
“We’ve gotta take care of the basketball, we’ve gotta win the rebounding battle and we’ve just gotta be in the moment of playoff basketball. We’re a little too casual,” Harris said after the loss.
He later faced this follow-up question: Why are the Pistons too “casual?”
“I don’t know. That’s something we have to figure out as a collective group,” Harris said.
Detroit fell even with the Magic losing one of their top scorers late in Franz Wagner, who left with right calf soreness. Wagner settled with 19 points through 24 minutes on the floor.
Harris squeaked in 20 points inside the Kia Center on 8-of-17 shooting. Though he missed all five 3-point attempts. He wasn’t the only Piston enduring Game 4 struggles.
Cade Cunningham led with 25 points but mishandled the basketball at a high volume: Committing eight turnovers. That mark tied him with LeBron James in hitting unfortunate NBA postseason history. Now Cunningham and James are the only players to record 17 or more turnovers through a two-game playoff run.
Jalen Duren rose as one more struggling Detroit star. The center scored just 12 points through 31 minutes and lost the basketball four times.
This series moves back to Little Caesars Arena Wednesday with Orlando one win away from advancing.
