Magic star Desmond Bane thanks forever friends Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr. for Game 4 cameos

Desmond Bane was grateful to see his former star teammates Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. cheer him on courtside during the Orlando Magic’s Game 4 clash with the Detroit Pistons on Monday night.

Bane spent the first five years of his NBA career with the Memphis Grizzlies from 2020 to 2025. He made his way up the ranks as he, Morant and Jackson formed a star trio together. This paved the way for them to make the playoffs four times in those five seasons, reaching the second round in 2022.

Even though their time together ended in the 2025 offseason with Memphis trading Bane to Orlando, the star guard still remains connected with Morant and Jackson. He expressed as much after the game about their courtside presences.

“It’s special. Those are guys that I spent 5 years with, started my career with, made a lot of memories with. It’s a friendship that’ll last forever. Those are guys that mean a lot to me. I’m thankful that they pulled up to support,” Bane said.

How Desmond Bane, Magic played against Pistons

Desmond Bane and the Magic are one win away from the East semifinals as they lead 3-1 in the first-round series after beating the Pistons in Game 4.

Perimeter shooting and turnovers made the difference in this matchup. The Magic prevailed in both categories after making nine 3-pointers on a 26% clip and limited their turnovers to just 12. It was the opposite for the Pistons as they only converted six triples on 20% accuracy and committed 20 turnovers throughout the game.

Four players scored in double-digits for Orlando in the win, including Bane. He led the attack with 22 points and five rebounds on 7-of-18 shooting from the field, including 5-of-10 from downtown, and 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. Franz Wagner came next with 19 points and five rebounds, Paolo Banchero had 18 points and eight rebounds, while Wendell Carter Jr. provided 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The Magic will look to secure the series win and advance to the next round when they face the Pistons on the road in Game 5. The matchup takes place on April 29 as tip-off commences at 7 p.m. ET.
