Brewers manager Pat Murphy delivers concerning Christian Yelich injury update

The Milwaukee Brewers’ slump continued Sunday, after an 8-6 loss to the Washington Nationals, stretching their losing streak to five games following two consecutive series defeats and a sweep at the hands of Washington.

During the game, designated hitter Christian Yelich was forced to exit in the fifth inning due to tightness in his left hamstring. The 34-year-old went 0-for-2 at the plate, with Brewers manager Pat Murphy revealing Yelich felt a twinge in his hamstring during his second at-bat. Gary Sanchez entered as a pinch-hitter in the fifth inning with Milwaukee leading 3-2 at the time of the substitution.

After the game, Murphy expressed strong concern over the severity of the injury.

“We’re most likely going to get some bad news on Yelich,” he said.

The initial postgame imaging revealed “fluid in there,” according to Murphy, adding to the concern surrounding the injury. Yelich’s exit came without a clear moment of injury on the field, making the situation more troubling for the Brewers. Despite wanting to remain in the game, he was removed as a precaution. At the time of his exit, he was batting .314/.375/.451 through 15 games this season with 1 home run and 10 RBIs.

Milwaukee is already dealing with multiple injuries across the roster. Jackson Chourio and Andrew Vaughn are both sidelined with broken hands, while left-handed reliever Jared Koenig is out with an elbow sprain. The Brewers also remain under pressure following offseason moves that included trading Caleb Durbin, Freddy Peralta, and Isaac Collins.

Yelich, who has dealt with recurring back issues, enjoyed a healthy 2025 campaign, playing 150 games and hitting .264 with 29 home runs and 103 RBIs. A former 2018 National League MVP, he has also won two batting titles and made three All-Star appearances during his career.
