Brewers calling up shortstop prospect ahead of Guardians series
The Milwaukee Brewers are gearing up for a three-game series against the Cleveland Guardians beginning on Monday. They’ll now have some extra reinforcements entering battle.
The Brewers are expected to call up top shortstop prospect Cooper Pratt, via Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. What the corresponding move for his arrival will be has not yet been revealed.
Pratt currently ranks as the fourth-best prospect in Milwaukee’s organization and No. 63 overall, via MLB Pipeline. The Brewers clearly believe in his potential, already signing him to an eight-year, $50+ million contract extension.
Over his 57 games in Triple-A during the 2026 season, Pratt hit .244 with six home runs, 32 RBIs and 17 stolen bases. His 285 games total at the minor league level resulted in a .257 batting average with 22 home runs, 147 RBIs and 79 RBIs.
Pratt’s speed clearly stands out, as he had 31 steals in 2025 and 27 in 2024. If his power continues to develop, he’ll have a chance to develop into a potential 20/20 player. Of course though, Pratt will need to prove he can handle himself at the major league level.
At 43-26, the Brewers hold a five-game lead in the NL Central. They have made the playoffs in seven of their last eight seasons. However, they have failed to win the NL Pennant. Milwaukee is looking to prove 2026 is different.
Now, Pratt will have an opportunity to join the Brewers’ playoff push. With his extension, he is committed to Milwaukee long-term. If his major league debut goes as planned, the future can come early for the shortstop. All eyes will be on Pratt when he finally enters a game.
