Brendan Sorsby gets second-round label from insider ahead of NFL supplemental draft

After a convoluted journey at Texas Tech – that never began on the football field technically – quarterback Brendan Sorsby is headed to the NFL. He is set to become one of the most sought after supplemental draft picks ever.

Teams across the league are now evaluating how valuable Sorsby really is. When those franchises place their bids, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network thinks he could cost as high as a second-round pick, via the Pat McAfee Show.

“Brendan Sorsby is gonna be the most high profiled player we’ve seen in a Supplemental Draft in quite some time,” Rapoport said. “You’re probably looking at him going in the second round”

In the supplemental draft, teams are bidding 2027 draft picks for the right to select Sorsby. Whichever team makes the highest bid and ultimately lands Sorsby will then give up the corresponding pick. So far example if the QB goes in the second-round, his new team would lose their 2027 NFL Draft second-round pick.

With those selections being valuable resources, they want to know if Sorsby is legit. He’ll need to answer questions for all the off-field problems while proving he can be a team’s QB1 of the future.

Sorsby’s buzz grew after his junior season at Cincinnati. Over 12 games, he threw for 2,800 yards, 27 touchdowns and five interceptions. Furthermore, he added another 580 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on the ground. Sorsby was named Second-team All-Big 12 for his efforts.

It seems inevitable that the quarterback will be selected in the supplemental draft. He would’ve been one of the top options in the 2027 NFL Draft class. But exactly where he is picked will be telling on how the league at large views his potential.
