Bo Bichette drops honest admission on signing with Mets over Phillies

The New York Mets signed Bo Bichette this past offseason. Bichette was linked to the Philadelphia Phillies before ending up with the Mets, though. With the Mets and Phillies playing in Philadelphia on Thursday, the subject came up while Bichette was speaking with reporters. The star infielder revealed why he signed with New York instead of Philadelphia, via SNY Mets.

“I mean, at the end of the day, it just became obvious to me that it was the right decision for me and my wife and my family,” Bichette said. “There’s a lot of parallels between the two, passionate fanbase and organizations trying to win. Yeah, it just became clear to me that Mets was the right decision.”

Bichette, 28, entered the ball game on Thursday with a slash line of .254/.299/.378 across 74 games played. He has also hit eight home runs and 11 doubles. It has been an underwhelming season for the slugger, but Bichette still features the ceiling of a star hitter.

The Phillies would surely love to have him right now. While the Mets have struggled and are in last place in the National League East, the Phillies are in second place in the division. Philadelphia has performed well in recent weeks after a slow start to the season, but the team’s offense has struggled outside of a few hitters.

Bichette’s presence in the lineup would be crucial right now. Nevertheless, Bichette ended up with the Mets so the Phillies will need to find another way to boost the offense. Philadelphia will likely attempt to trade for a hitter or two before the deadline in August.
