Blues win Mason McTavish sweepstakes with Ducks trade
The St. Louis Blues, who traded Jordan Kyrou to the Washington Capitals just days ago, needed to act quickly and find a way to replace the offensive production Kyrou provided, especially after missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs this past season.
They’ve now done so with one of the many trades that have been completed so far on the first day of the 2026 NHL Draft. The Blues have acquired forward Mason McTavish from the Anaheim Ducks, and in return, are sending the 15th and 29th overall picks in the opening round of the Draft back to the Ducks.
The trade was confirmed by NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun:
“Anaheim trades Mason McTavish to St. Louis for picks 15 and 29,” LeBrun wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
McTavish was selected third overall by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2021 NHL Draft and was once viewed as one of the club’s cornerstone pieces in their rebuild. He would eventually make his debut with the Ducks in the 2022-23 NHL season, and has since delivered steady offensive production with seasonal goal totals of 17, 19, 22, and 17.
This past season, he posted 17 goals and 24 assists over 75 games, playing a key role in helping Anaheim return to the playoffs for the first time since 2018. In the postseason, he added six points, including one goal and five assists, as the Ducks advanced to the Western Conference Semifinals before they were eventually taken down by the Western Conference champion Vegas Golden Knights.
So far in his NHL career, McTavish has scored 77 goals with 104 assists in 304 games.
