Blue Jays DFA pitcher amid postseason push

Although the Toronto Blue Jays are in last place in the AL East, the club is still right on the doorstep of potentially securing a playoff spot as a Wild Card team. With the organization making a final push for the postseason, the front office announced some roster moves on Friday.

The Blue Jays announced they are recalling right-handed pitcher CJ Van Eyk from Triple-A Buffalo, and he will be active for Friday’s contest against the Seattle Mariners. To make room on the roster for Eyk, Toronto DFA’d right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson.

“ROSTER MOVES,” the Blue Jays announced. “RHP CJ Van Eyk recalled from Triple-A and will be active tonight. RHP Simeon Woods Richardson designated for assignment.”

This will be Van Eyk’s second stint with the Blue Jays, as he made his MLB debut earlier this season with the club. The 27-year-old will have a chance to help Toronto’s attempt to reach the playoffs. Through 5.2 innings pitched so far in the majors, Van Eyk owns a 4.76 ERA and 2.118 WHIP with just one strikeout.

The Blue Jays are hoping his play at the minor league level will shine through in the final stretch of the 2026 campaign. This season at Triple-A Buffalo, CJ Van Eyk has recorded 68 strikeouts through 95.0 innings pitched, giving him a 3.79 ERA and 1.337 WHIP.

As for Simeon Woods Richardson, the fifth-year pro has been less than efficient this year, playing 12 games with the Minnesota Twins and eight with the Blue Jays. However, his time in Toronto has been much more successful than in Minnesota. His 18.1 innings pitched with the Blue Jays have led him to a 3.93 ERA and 1.418 WHIP.
