Blazers fans destroy cheap new owner Tom Dundon for uniquely short Micah Nori contract
The biggest question mark of the offseason for the Portland Trail Blazers has been who their next head coach will be after Tiago Splitter left to join the Chicago Bulls. On Tuesday, fans got their answer.
“BREAKING: Micah Nori has agreed to become the head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, sources tell @TheAthletic. Nori was lead assistant of the Minnesota Timberwolves for the past five years. Nori, 52, signed a one-year deal with team options for each of the next two seasons,” reported Jason Quick of The Athletic on X, formerly Twitter.
Fans were quick to notice the unusually short nature of the deal and point the finger at team owner Tom Dundon once again for his cheapness.
“Nothing says ‘we believe in you’ like a 1 year contract with a team option… for a head coach. This Blazers owner is a complete joke,” wrote one fan.
“As a Wolves fan I hate to see Nori go. I think he’ll be great. What a terrible contract. Dundon is a piece of work,” wrote another.
Dundon has already come under immense fire over the last few months for various spending-related reasons, including refusing to bring along two-way players for the team’s road playoff games, declining to provide shirts for the fans in attendance at home games, and essentially showing Splitter the door despite his successful season with the team.
Nori has long been viewed as a head coaching candidate in the NBA, having taken over temporarily as the Timberwolves’ head coach when Chris Finch was injured during the team’s 2024 run to the Western Conference Finals.
He will now look to prove himself as a full-time head coach and hopefully convince Dundon to dig a bit deeper in his pockets.
