Bengals’ Joe Burrow sends cold response to Dexter Lawrence’s challenge

Training Camp is now in full swing for the Cincinnati Bengals, who enter the 2026 season facing a pivotal win-now campaign, with star quarterback Joe Burrow looking to end a three-year playoff drought amid a massive roster overhaul and growing pressure to keep the franchise on track.

During the opening day of Bengals Training Camp, there was a notable exchange between Burrow and defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence that was captured by radio broadcaster Dan Hoard.

“I wanna see it today Mr. Burrow,” said Lawrence via Hoard on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Joe’s response: “You can see it every day brother.”

Hoard later visited with Lawrence to gain further explanation on the exchange, and the defensive tackle said that it’s way of keeping Burrow, whom he referred to as the “king of the jungle”, on edge.

“Somebody has to challenge the King of the Jungle as they say,” said Lawrence. “Somebody has to keep him on edge in order for him to get better and grow. That competitive spirit won’t stop. And with a guy like that, I know he’s going to bring it. It’s going to be fun.”

Last season, Burrow was limited to only eight games because of a turf toe injury that he suffered in Week 2. He ultimately finished the season with 1,809 passing yards, 17 passing touchdowns, and five interceptions. Meanwhile, Lawrence played in all 17 games, and recorded 31 combined tackles with 0.5 sacks and an interception.

The Bengals finished the season with a 6-11 record, finishing in third place in the AFC North Division standings and falling short of a playoff spot.
