Bengals’ Joe Burrow reveals the element of his game he’s excited to bring back in 2026

Everybody knows that, at his best, Joe Burrow is one of the very best players in the NFL. The Cincinnati Bengals quarterback led the NFL in completion percentage (70.4%) as a sophomore, the same year he led his team to the Super Bowl. In 2024, Burrow threw for 4,918 yards and 43 touchdowns, both of which led the league as well.

However, injury issues have been just as commonplace as gridiron dominance for the former number one pick. During his rookie season, the first coming off a Heisman Trophy victory, Burrow tore his ACL and was limited to 10 games. A wrist injury kept him to just 10 games again in 2023, and a toe problem plagued the QB last season. In fact, the eight games that Burrow played last year were a career low, and he wasn’t quite his normal self upon his return.

Burrow suffered his turf toe injury in Week 2, and he wasn’t able to get back on the field until Week 13. From there on, he only had 38 rushing yards. Burrow is most known for his arm; there is no question about that, but his rushing skill set and his ability to escape pressure and make magic happen on the move have long played a big part in his success. Those attributes were neutralized last season, but a fully healthy Burrow expects to be back to his normal scrambling self this year.

“I’m excited to break that back out again,” Burrow said. “Last season I certainly couldn’t [scramble] when I came back, and that’s a big part of my game. It was a good experience last year figuring out how to play without that, and so I can pull that out if I need to… My legs are a big part of my game.”

If history were to repeat itself, Burrow would avoid major injuries this year and instead stuff the stat sheet at an MVP level. Will the LSU product actually be able to take home the NFL’s most prestigious individual award this year, though? Better yet, could the Bengals finally break through and win it all?
