Baker Mayfield’s Buccaneers teammate Emeka Egbuka came up with perfect name for newborn baby

There is a chance that Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Emeka Egbuka named the newborn baby of Baker and Emily Mayfield, who was recently born on Thursday, Apr. 16, 2026.

Now, it’s being speculated that Egbuka named Mayfield’s baby. Tez Johnson was talking about the baby and joked that they had to “give him something for ESPN” for “when he gets drafted.”

Egbuka then said, “Maverick,” which prompted Johnson to ask, “That ain’t no dog name?” He doubled down, saying, “Maverick Mayfield,” and his nickname would be “Mav.”

The Mayfield couple just announced the birth of their baby on Apr. 22, 2026, nearly a week after he was born. His name is Maverick Thorne Mayfield, and Emily even dubbed him “Baby Mav” in her Instagram Stories post.

Maverick is not the first baby that Baker and Emily Mayfield have had. Previously, Emily was pregnant with their first kid, a daughter, and gave birth to her in April 2024.

A year later, she has now given birth to a son. They announced the news of her second pregnancy before the Buccaneers’ Week 12 game against the Los Angeles Rams.

Baker and Emily Mayfield have been married since July 2019. They are now continuing to build their family as Mayfield enters his ninth year in the NFL.

The Buccaneers are coming off a somewhat disappointing 2025 campaign. Mayfield passed for 4,500 yards and 41 touchdowns in 2024, but he took a step back in every statistical category in 2025.

He passed for 3,693 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions in 2025. The Buccaneers also only won eight games and missed the playoffs.

Egbuka was selected in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft out of Ohio State. In his rookie season, he caught 63 passes for 938 yards and six touchdowns. He also rushed for nine yards on two carries. He played in all 17 games of the regular season.
