Auburn football beats out Penn State for 4-star WR

The Auburn football team is picking up some strong recruits under new head coach Alex Golesh. Auburn beat out Penn State Tuesday for the services of four-star wide receiver Deshawn Hall, per Rivals.

This is a big win for Auburn. The star wideout is from the state of Alabama.

“It just hit different being able to do it in yo hometown surrounded with your people,” Hall told Rivals about his commitment.

Hall had offers from multiple SEC programs. Tennessee and Florida had also extended offers to him. He also received a lot of interest from ACC powerhouse Clemson.

The wide receiver said going to Auburn was just took good an opportunity to pass up. He took a visit to the school recently. According to On3, he is the no. 1 wide receiver in Alabama for the 2027 class.

“I’ve really grown to love it (at Auburn),” Hall told Rivals, and reported by On3. “The new staff is doing a great job with me. I like them a lot.”

Hall was also impressed with how Auburn wide receivers coach Kodi Burns handled his recruitment.

“Me and Kodi Burns are really cool,” Hall said. “I feel like we’ll have a great relationship going forward. Also, the assistant coach, too, Coach Parker (Carmichael.) He’s real cool, too.”

Golesh took the Auburn job after the Tigers parted ways with former head coach Hugh Freeze. Golesh came to Auburn from South Florida, where he had great success.

“His energy, he keeps it real with the players and he isn’t going to sugarcoat nothing,” Hall said about Golesh. “He’s going to let you know how it is, and that’s really what a player needs.”

Auburn kicks off the 2026 college football season on September 5. The Tigers will play Baylor in a key non-conference game.
