Auburn beats Ohio State, Georgia for 4-star defensive lineman
Auburn football compensated for a costly College Football Recruiting loss Sunday. The Tigers lost out on landing four-star edge rusher JaBarrius Garror Friday. But the Southeastern Conference school beat out Ohio State and Georgia for a different blue chip talent: four-star defensive tackle Nate Kamba.
The massive and powerful 6-foot-4, 305-pounder verbally committed to the Tigers Sunday, revealing his decision to Hayes Fawcett of On3/Rivals. He even dropped a “War Damn Eagle” reference in announcing his school of choice.
Kamba had one other SEC school along with Georgia in his mix: South Carolina. He would’ve handed the Gamecocks a Carolinas talent, as the interior defensive lineman stars for Corvian Community School in Charlotte. But Auburn defensive line coach Vontrell King-Williams seals this recruiting win for new head coach Alex Golesh and his staff.
Kamba told AuburnSports.com via On3/Rivals that his relationship with King-Williams emerged as a deciding factor for his choice.
“We talk almost every single day. We joke around and do stuff, but whenever it’s time to get serious we get serious,” Kamba said.
He adds that Auburn wants “me to see the field early, that’s one thing I like about this school is they do play freshmen and they showed me that.”
So Auburn now sits at No. 12 in team recruiting rankings for 247Sports. Yet land at No. 10 per On3/Rivals. Kamba certainly can boost the rankings up with his verbal commitment.
He’s Auburn’s second four-star pledge in a week, as the Tigers nabbed linebacker Isaac McNeil to boost the defense.
