The Oklahoma City Thunder are just two weeks away from kicking off their upcoming 2026-27 regular season. It was an offseason of subtraction rather than addition for the Thunder this summer, as the team essentially salary dumped Aaron Wiggins, Isaiah Joe, and Lu Dort in order to help their financial situation.

One storyline looming over the franchise is a possible extension for guard Cason Wallace, who had a breakout performance during the playoffs this past year, and now, the team has gotten a key warning from ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel on that front.

“Whether or not the Thunder can ink Wallace to a long-term extension comes down to how much they are ultimately willing to pay. There are absolutely teams around the league who would jump on the opportunity to sign Wallace to an offer sheet next offseason if he is a restricted free agent,” reported Siegel.

Siegel also noted that “…at least two different teams would be prepared to offer him a deal that exceeds $30 million in annual value.”

It would certainly be a steep price to pay for Wallace, who is already establishing himself as an elite two-way player, having been arguably Oklahoma City's second-best performer during their playoff loss to the San Antonio Spurs last year.

The Thunder finding a way to afford to match that price for Wallace while still keeping their core of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren, and Jalen Williams together, and also keeping around young players like Jared McCain and Ajay Mitchell, would certainly be a high-wire act for general manager Sam Presti.

In any case, the Thunder are slated to kick off their regular season on October 20 with a road game vs the Spurs.
