The Memphis Grizzlies have gotten a good look at first-round pick Cameron Boozer throughout the offseason, as the club prepares for the 2026-27 campaign. Going into the preseason finale, head coach Tuomas Iisalo broke down exactly what makes Boozer so special.
While talking with media members on Friday, Iisalo credited the 19-year-old forward for being a quick learner. Boozer has allegedly displayed an impressive ability to learn and adapt, to the point where Iisalo calls it his superpower.
“The best players, they also learn the fastest, and they need the least amount of reps because the focus and the understanding is so high level,” Iisalo said. “There are players that it takes two, three years to get used to this speed and to get a role down, or conceptually some type of offense or defense thing.
“Then there are players who get it in months,” Iisalo continued. “And I feel like with Cam we have a guy who gets it down in one or two pre-practice reps. That's really rare. That's not something you see very often. I think this ability to learn faster than others is really his superpower. And that gives him a chance to adapt to the league very fast.”

The Grizzlies have one more preseason matchup that tips off at 8 p.m. EST on Friday against the Charlotte Hornets. We'll see Cameron Boozer make his regular-season debut on Wednesday, October 21, in a home game against the Utah Jazz.
Boozer was the No. 3 pick overall in the 2026 NBA Draft. He joined the Grizzlies after playing one year for the Duke Blue Devils. In college, he appeared in an ACC high of 38 games, averaging 22.5 points, 10.2 rebounds (led ACC), 4.1 assists, and 1.4 steals per contest while shooting 55.6% from the field and 39.1% from beyond the three-point line.
His efforts earned him several honors, including the AP Player of the Year Award and being named a First-Team All-American in several categories (AP, NABC, SN).
