On Tuesday afternoon, the New York Giants announced that they would be releasing franchise icon Odell Beckham Jr. Beckham Jr. had earned a roster spot with his performance in training camp this summer, but ultimately, his latest stint with the team lasted just three games.
Now, the team has made a subsequent move involving another wide receiver on their roster.
“Giants are signing veteran WR Braxton Berrios to their active roster,” reported ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter on X, formerly Twitter.
Berrios had previously been on the Giants' practice squad and is now no longer available for other teams to swoop in on.
Meanwhile, Beckham Jr. hadn't recorded a catch in the first few weeks of the season for New York, playing in just a few snaps but still generating plenty of attention due to his status as one of the best wide receivers in franchise history, having become a Pro Bowler with the Giants throughout the 2010s.
The other big news of the week for the Giants was their trade for Minnesota Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy, giving up a future draft pick in return. That news came amid another rough game for quarterback Jameis Winston, starting in place of the injured Jaxson Dart, on Sunday against the Tennessee Titans, although the Giants did manage to scrape out a win thanks to a late interception thrown by Cam Ward.
It remains to be seen whether or not McCarthy will be the starter for the Giants at any point this season, or whether the team has plans to involve Berrios in the offense now that they have promoted him to the active roster.
New York will next hit the field on Sunday at home vs the Arizona Cardinals.
