The West Virginia football team hopes for great success under head coach Rich Rodriguez in 2026. West Virginia is adding another body to the running back room. Utah transfer NaQuari Rogers is signing with the Mountaineers, per On3.
“(Rogers) was granted an injunction for a 5th year of eligibility earlier today in Indiana. He's rushed for 1,598 career yards and 11 TDs,” Pete Nakos posted to X, formerly Twitter.
West Virginia has one of the best rushing offenses in the country this season. The Mountaineers are first in the Big 12 conference in rushing, per league stats. The Mountaineers are averaging 294 rushing yards per contest.
The Mountaineers next play Iowa State in Ames on Saturday. West Virginia is 3-1 on the season, after losing their Big 12 opener recently to Oklahoma State.
West Virginia has big expectations this season under Rich Rodriguez
The Mountaineers' head coach Rodriguez is in his second stint at the school. He previously coached at West Virginia from 2001-2007. He turned the Mountaineers back then into a national power.
Article Continues BelowRodriguez came back to Morgantown in 2025. His 2025 team at West Virginia went just 4-8 on the season. This season, West Virginia fans are excited to see if the Mountaineers can improve.
West Virginia came out of the gate this year with three straight wins. The team defeated Coastal Carolina, UT Martin and Virginia, before losing to Oklahoma State.
Rogers will join a West Virginia rushing attack that already features transfer running back Cam Cook. Cook has rushed for three touchdowns this season, and 510 rushing yards. He has 99 carries already on the campaign.
West Virginia looks to bounce back after losing their first conference game of the season to the Cowboys.
“Offensively, there was some good stuff, but there were some things we missed in the passing game. Defensively, it was nothing,” Rodriguez said in his Oklahoma State postgame presser, per the school.
Before coming back to West Virginia, Rodriguez was the head coach at Jacksonville State.
