There is a strong bond between Angel Reese and Karl Smesko as the Atlanta Dream continue their remarkable playoff run this season.
Reese is going through the third season of her WNBA career, her first with the Dream. She's enjoying her best campaign to date as she is helping Atlanta be on the brink of making a WNBA Finals appearance.
Reese spoke with reporters on Friday ahead of Atlanta's Game 3 clash with the New York Liberty in the semifinals. There, she expressed how impactful Smesko has been to her since she joined the organization.
“That's already started before when I got to training camp. He works out with me every single day. We shoot together every day, and that kind of puts confidence in me. When you have a head coach that really believes in you, and not just says it, but shows action. When somebody shows up for you, it means everything to me. I'm willing to work the world for him. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to win for him because I know that he cares about me genuinely,” Reese said.
“He cares about my success, he cares about my career, he wants the best out of me, he tells me I'm going to be an MVP player. Just be patient with him and just be patient. Trust the process. And having him out there means everything to me. We have a little handshake, a little fun handshake. He's an introvert kinda, but I kind of bring this little side out of him, so it's really fun.”
