Dana Altman suddenly retires. Who will be interim Oregon basketball coach?

The Oregon Ducks suddenly have a new head coach just weeks before the start of the college basketball season.

Dana Altman is retiring from Oregon, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel, bringing an abrupt end to one of the most successful coaching tenures in program history. The timing of the decision is especially surprising with the 2026-27 season right around the corner and preseason practices already underway.

So, who will take over for Altman?

According to Thamel, longtime Oregon assistant coach and former DePaul head coach Tony Stubblefield is expected to serve as the Ducks' interim coach for the season. Oregon later confirmed Stubblefield would take over on an interim basis.
