After San Antonio Spurs All-Star Victor Wembanyama addressed his stance on sports betting endorsements, he's allegedly refusing to give exclusive interviews to any American outlet outside of 60 Minutes. Wembanyama reportedly doesn't want to talk about losing to the New York Knicks in the 2026 NBA Finals. After addressing the disappointing loss at media, he's ready to look ahead toward the 2026-27 season.
Wembanyama's unwillingness to speak to the media about the Spurs losing the 2026 Finals, 4-1, was mentioned by Michael C. Wright via ESPN's The Hoop Collective podcast.
“I'm hearing that Victor does not want to talk about what happened in the Finals. I'm hearing he's locked in. As a matter of fact, I was told that he's not even talking to any American media outlets except for 60 Minutes. And I'm curious to see what the 60 Minutes is. It affected him in a way. Think about it, the whole series, and I know a lot of people thought he was being arrogant, but no, that's just Victor. He sincerely believed that the Spurs would win. He sincerely believed that the Spurs were the better team.
“And it just didn't go the way he wanted it to, but I think he learned a lot about it. One thing he talked about was when you're at that Finals stage, all it takes is one mistake, and a team will punish you for that one mistake. I don't think he realized up to that point, just how serious that is. One turnover can be the difference in a ball game, and I don't think Victor recognized that,” Wright concluded.
In response to Wright's report about Wembanyama, ESPN's Tim MacMahon was unimpressed.
“Tough,” MacMahon interjected. “Oh give me a break,” he added, after Wright mentioned 60 Minutes as the only outlet that Spurs' Victor Wembanyama is willing to speak to after losing the 2026 Finals.
