Arch Manning makes ‘rough’ confession on first Ohio State matchup – here’s why Texas star will get revenge

Arch Manning and the Texas football team were defeated 14-7 by Ohio State in their highly-anticipated matchup last year. While the Longhorns’ defense helped keep Texas in the game, Manning’s performance was underwhelming overall. Texas was ranked No. 3 overall a season ago while Ohio State was No. 1. While it was a competitive contest, it felt like all the Longhorns needed was Manning to be just a little bit better to upset Ohio State.

“It’s a rough film to watch. I don’t like watching it that much,” Manning said of last year’s Texas-Ohio State game, via Dave Wilson of ESPN.

No. 5 Texas is set to host No. 1 Ohio State on Saturday in a rematch of last year’s game. Manning is more experienced now. He is surely more prepared for the big moment. Upsetting Ohio State is never a simple task, though.

Ohio State star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith is among the early-season Heisman Trophy frontrunners. Manning will be in that conversation as well. In fact, his performance against the Buckeyes will go a long way toward determining how serious of a Heisman Trophy candidate he ends up being.

So, will Manning get his revenge against Ohio State this year?

The 22-year-old is entering his fourth season at Texas. However, he began his Longhorns career serving as the backup QB to Quinn Ewers.

Manning finally received consistent playing time last year and he threw for 3,163 yards and 26 touchdowns to go along with only seven interceptions. He had some ups and downs throughout the season, but he displayed why he is thought to be a future NFL star by many.

Manning has only played in one game so far this season, but he made the most of it. The quarterback led the Longhorns to a convincing 59-7 win against Texas State. Manning went 20-27 through the air while recording 305 yards and four touchdowns.

It goes without saying, but the Buckeyes will present more of a challenge. However, Manning, as mentioned, now has the necessary experience for a matchup such as this. He may not like watching the film of last year’s contest, but he has watched it and he is now more knowledgeable about how to play against this Ohio State team.

Will Arch Manning throw for over 300 yards and record four touchdowns? Maybe not — although anything is possible — but I expect him to be more prepared for this year’s game between Texas and Ohio State. He is poised to lead the Longhorns to a win. Manning should be able to limit mistakes and find ways to make quality plays.

It will be a competitive game, but Manning is ready for the moment.
