Anthony Edwards’ take sums up Timberwolves’ historically brutal Game 2 vs. Spurs

Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves were sent crashing back to earth after losing by 38 points to the San Antonio Spurs, 133-95, in Game 2 of their second-round series at Frost Bank Center on Wednesday.

The Timberwolves looked helpless, as the Spurs pummeled them early on before forcing them into submission in the second half. San Antonio tied the best-of-seven clash, 1-1.

It was the worst loss in the playoffs in team history, and Edwards summed it up with an old saying.

“My mama used to say a hard head makes a soft a**,” said the four-time All-Star, as quoted by The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski.

Krawczynski noted that Edwards was not pleased with their decision-making and turnovers. Minnesota had 22 turnovers, which San Antonio converted to 19 points.

“(Edwards) said they came out too cool and credited San Antonio with playing like a desperate team,” wrote Krawczynski.

Edwards came off the bench for the second straight game. He scored 12 points on 5-of-13 shooting. He also had three rebounds and four turnovers, as coach Chris Finch, who bluntly called out his players, continued to manage his minutes.

The Timberwolves shot themselves in the foot after allowing the Spurs to take a 24-point lead at halftime. The hole proved to be too deep to climb out of.

Edwards, who recently returned from a knee injury, struggled with the different defenses thrown at him by San Antonio. Unfortunately, Julius Randle, Jaden McDaniels, and Naz Reid could not bail out Minnesota, as they also struggled.

The Timberwolves will try to take a 2-1 lead in Game 3 at Target Center on Friday.
