Anthony Davis reveals letter he got after Mavericks’ Luka Doncic trade promising boos weren’t for him
The Anthony Davis and Luka Doncic trade between the Dallas Mavericks and the Los Angeles Lakers shocked the NBA world last season. Davis reflected on his time with the Mavericks — short stint that led to his trade to the Washington Wizards in 2026. However, in the wake of argubally the most shocking move in league history, Anthony will never forget his first week in Dallas.
Davis recalled when he received a letter underneath the door of the hotel room he was staying in shortly after joining the Mavericks, he said, per The Draymond Green Show.
“Dear AD, hope you’re liking your time in Dallas. Here in Dallas we love Dirk, BBQ, the Cowboys, and Luka. What we love more than all of that is championships. The boos you’re going to hear, are not for you.”
Instead, the boos were a message from a frustrated Mavericks fanbase toward the team’s front office. Protestors marched the streets after hearing the Mavericks’ leader, Luka Doncic, who led his team to the NBA Finals in 2024, had joined the Lakers.
One Mavs fan wanted Davis to not take the anticipated boos personally.
Nico Harrison’s message to Anthony Davis after joining Mavericks

Wizards veteran Anthony Davis revealed the phone call he received from former Mavericks GM Nico Harrison after his trade from the Lakers. Davis says Harrison was enthusiastic about the move, reminding Davis that he always had eyes on the future Hall of Fame center, he said, via The Draymond Green Show.
“‘I told you I was going to come get you one day one day. I wanted you,’” Davis quoted Harrison as saying. “I told Nico, I didn’t even speak, I said, ‘let me call you back.’”
Harrison was relieved of his duties by the Mavericks earlier this season.
