Angels’ Travis d’Arnaud injury gets update after exiting White Sox game

Despite being last in the AL West at the moment, the Los Angeles Angels are starting to crawl their way back. Wednesday’s 8-2 win over the Chicago White Sox gave the Angels a series win in front of their home crowd. Veteran catcher Travis d’Arnaud’s three-run home run was the big blow for the hometown Halos. However, later in the matchup, the backstop left due to injury. According to Los Angeles manager Kurt Suzuki, d’Arnaud left with a foot issue, per team beat reporter Rhett Bollinger on X (formerly Twitter).

“Travis d’Arnaud exited with a foot issue and had trouble putting weight on it, Kurt Suzuki said,” Bollinger reported, “So, he’s undergoing testing.”

d’Arnaud’s three-run blast, his first of the season, kicked off a big five-run second inning for the Halos. Signed in the offseason to be the backup to rising young backstop Logan O’Hoppe, d’Arnaud’s veteran presence has been a big influence on a younger Los Angeles locker room. The foot issue comes at an inopportune time, as the Angels look to kick off their upcoming road trip with a series win over the Toronto Blue Jays.

Until the Angels figure out the full extent of d’Arnaud’s injury, look for third catcher Sebastian Rivero to handle the load behind the plate. O’Hoppe is also currently out with a wrist injury of his own. With their top two catchers now out of the lineup, can Los Angeles make its way back up the AL West standings? If not, it could be another long summer at Angel Stadium.
