Alexi Lalas names all-time USMNT World Cup team

With the 2026 FIFA World Cup fast approaching and just a few weeks left for it, U.S men’s soccer legend Alexi Lala has now shared his all-time USMNT World Cup team. Currently ranked 16th in the world by FIFA with 1673.13 points, the USMNT currently boasts several talented players and has done so over the years.

In a post shared on social media by Alexi Lala’s State of the Union podcast, he shared his “all-time USMNT FIFA World Cup starting XI.” With Tony Meola in the goalkeeper position, Lalas then placed Antonee “Jedi” Robinson and Tony Sanneh in the full-back positions. He then proceeded to place Carlos Bocanegra and Eddie Pope in the centre-back positions.

With Michael Bradley and Weston McKennie in the CDM, Lalas placed Christian Pulisic, Landon Donovan, and Tab Ramos in the LM, CM, and RM positions. The veteran finished his squad with Brian McBride in the striker position.

While an essentially strong team, his choice of players attracted several negative comments from the fans, who hoped to see their favorite players in his all-time World Cup XI. “No Dempsey or Howard is insane,” wrote one fan. While another commented, “Not sure how Tim Howard isn’t the keeper.” While another person commented, “Ramos was a great talent but having him in there over Dempsey is jaded.”

Who is USMNT veteran Alexi Lalas?

A celebrated American soccer player himself, Lalas represented the USMNT from 1991 to 1998. A centre back himself, he also enjoyed several impressive stints at Padova, Kansas City Wizards, and Los Angeles Galaxy. He is also best known for his participation with the USMNT in the 1994 FIFA World Cup with his iconic long hair and beard.
