It has been a remarkable couple of weeks for the Fitzpatrick family with Matt winning the Valspar Championship on the PGA Tour last weekend.

The pair have also made history by becoming the first brothers to win back-to-back on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour.

Alex Fitzpatrick, 27, won by two shots at the Indian Open and was immediately overcome with emotion as he sank the winning putt.

He put his hands up to his face as he soaked in the winning moment, before later being soaked with champagne.

Fitzpatrick began the final round four shots behind defending champion Eugenio Chacarra.

This was extended to six after five holes, before the Englishman staged a remarkable comeback.

Speaking after the victory, Fitzpatrick said: “I’ll try and explain without crying probably. It’s been a lot of hard work for a long time and there’s a lot of people to thank for this.

“As much as this is the most amazing thing in the world right now there’s you know there’s more important things in golf in life.

“Over the moon, probably going to cry, but yeah, ecstatic.

“At no point today [did I think I had the win]. I asked my caddie how many putts I had from six feet so I think that says it all.

“I am mentally exhausted. It’s a challenge out here and I am happy to come out on top.”

Fitzpatrick champions dinner

Older brother Matt Fitzpatrick, 31, won his third PGA Tour event at the Valspar Championship to put him in red hot form going into The Masters.

The 2022 US Open winner will make his 12th appearance at Augusta in April, having only failed to make the cut on one occasion.

There will be plenty for the family to celebrate when they do meet up in the coming days.

When asked if he’s going to have a family champions dinner, Alex Fitzpatrick said: “I’’m off to see them in a couple days. I see my mum and dad tomorrow and then we’re going to meet my brother in Florida.

“It’s been a good few weeks for the Fitzpatricks.”
