Alec Pierce’s injury timeline revelation puts start of training camp in jeopardy

The Indianapolis Colts are ready to make some noise during the 2026 season. Indy had a hot start in 2025, going into their bye week at 8-2. Unfortunately, Daniel Jones’ Achilles injury sunk the back half of the season. Fans have to be hopeful that one other key offensive player will get healthy as soon as possible.

Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce just revealed his injury recovery timeline on Wednesday, per The Athletic’s James Boyd.

“#Colts WR Alec Pierce says he was given a 4-6 month recovery timeline when he underwent left ankle surgery in late March,” Boyd wrote on social media. “No definitive timeline of when he’ll be back but is targeting sometime in camp.”

The fact that Pierce is targeting “sometime” during training camp suggests he will miss the start. It is a troubling update, but it is still too early in the offseason to be too worried.

Indy made a big commitment to Pierce earlier this offseason. The Colts signed Pierce to a four-year contract worth $116 million at the start of NFL free agency. They made it a priority to retain QB Daniel Jones and one of his top targets in Pierce. In hindsight, that move was likely a much bigger priority knowing they planned to trade Michael Pittman Jr. to the Steelers.

News broke about Pierce’s offseason ankle surgery over a month after he signed his contract extension. It may have come as a surprise to some fans, as it sought to correct a nagging injury from the 2025 season.

Pierce had a breakout season last fall, despite his lingering injury. He logged 47 receptions for 1,003 receiving yards and six touchdowns during the regular season. He quickly became one of Jones’ favorite targets deep down the field.

Colts fans should keep their eyes on Pierce’s participation throughout training camp later this summer.
