Alabama football’s Kalen DeBoer makes Ty Simpson NFL Draft pitch to 1st-round suitors

As people have been debating Alabama football star Ty Simpson’s NFL Draft stock, head coach Kalen DeBoer would give his thoughts on the quarterback’s value. While many mock drafts will have the Alabama football signal-caller in Simpson on different teams, DeBoer makes the case for why he is a first-round pick.

There has been speculation about whether Simpson is a first-round pick or whether he’s more of a Day Two prospect, but DeBoer spoke on ESPN’s SportsCenter about why he’s the former. He would talk about the accuracy and football intelligence that Simpson has, to go along with his leadership, which should make him a highly touted prospect.

“I definitely believe he is, he’s just been around it long enough, and he’s made so many great plays, big plays,” DeBoer said. “He can deliver the ball wherever he needs to, you know, down the field. Has great football IQ, you know, he’s a coach’s kid. He’s been around the game forever, just, you know, once he won the job, he really cut loose the leadership qualities that he has, and it’s real, it’s genuine.”

Alabama football’s Kalen DeBoer speaks more on Ty Simpson’s value

Last season for the Crimson Tide, Simpson threw for 3,567 yards to go along with 28 touchdowns and five interceptions, as he was a top quarterback in the nation in his junior season. He had been with the Alabama football program for two seasons prior, but didn’t get the opportunity like he did last season.

If last season showed anything to DeBoer and the Crimson Tide, it was how the team ‘rallied around’ Simpson.

“He took our guys at times, and just really got them to rally around him,” DeBoer said. “He’s got their back. They had his. And so many things that are on the field and off the field that just equate to a guy that, you know, you want in your program leading your team.”

It remains to be seen where Simpson ends up in the NFL Draft and if he will be a first-round pick or not, as the first round starts on April 26.
