49ers’ Ricky Pearsall dealt season-ending surgery update

The San Francisco 49ers suffered a significant setback during training camp Saturday, with wide receiver Ricky Pearsall expected to miss the entire 2026 season after undergoing surgery for a lingering knee injury.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news Saturday on X, formerly known as Twitter, citing comments from general manager John Lynch.

“After lengthy discussions today with doctors, 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall is expected to undergo season-ending surgery on the nagging PCL injury that dates back to last season and be out for the year, John Lynch told reporters. Pearsall is expected to make a full recovery in time for the 2027 season.”

Pearsall, 25, appeared in nine games during the 2025 season, recording 36 receptions on 53 targets for 528 yards while averaging 14.7 yards per catch. The former first-round pick had been expected to play a larger role in San Francisco’s offense entering 2026.

The injury comes just days after the 49ers reunited with veteran wide receiver Deebo Samuel, signing him to a one-year contract worth up to $7 million following his season with the Washington Commanders.

San Francisco now enters the 2026 season without Pearsall, but the organization expects the young receiver to make a full recovery and return in time for the 2027 campaign.
