49ers’ Raheem Morris hilariously calls out ‘jerk’ Adam Schefter over post

In a rare occurrence, San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Raheem Morris spent his 50th birthday on the team plane, flying through different time zones.

The 49ers were on their way to Australia for their opening game against the Los Angeles Rams at Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday. It will be the NFL’s first-ever regular-season clash in Australia.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter, however, noted that Morris technically did not have a birthday this year.

“Raheem Morris turned 50 years old Thursday, September 3. It also happened to be the day the 49ers flew to Australia, leaving Wednesday night, September 2, and arriving Friday morning, September 4, local time. The 49ers lost a day, but Morris lost his 50th birthday,” wrote Schefter on X.

The post did not escape Morris, who jokingly took a swipe at Schefter.

“I’ve been missing my birthday for years. Football comes with that, especially when you’re a Virgo and you get into this business,” said the veteran tactician in a video posted by The San Francisco Chronicle’s Harrison Rich.

“You’re always doing something, whether we’re getting ready for the first game, no matter what’s been going on for the last 20 or so years. Obviously, you guys know I’m old because Schefty is telling everybody I’m 50. What a jerk he is.”

Morris has been around football for almost his entire life. After playing as a safety at Hofstra in 1997, he became a defensive backs coach for his alma mater and later for Cornell. He entered the NFL in 2002 as a defensive quality control coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was promoted to head coach in 2009.

After being fired in 2012, he had various roles with the Washington Redskins, the Atlanta Falcons, and the Los Angeles Rams.

The 49ers hired him in February after two seasons calling the shots for the Falcons, reuniting him with head coach Kyle Shanahan, whom he worked with in Washington and in his first stint in Atlanta.
