4-star QB picks Georgia over UCLA, Arkansas
Georgia football claimed one College Football Recruiting win five days ago against LSU. But Georgia added a four-star with LSU ties Friday after nabbing three-star offensive lineman DJ Dotson. Plus this quarterback turns down Southeastern Conference rival Arkansas and UCLA for the Bulldogs.
Colton Nussmeier of Ryan High in Denton, Texas, younger brother of former Tigers passer Garrett, chose Georgia in ending his recruiting process. The 2027 talent fired off an early signal with On3/Rivals’ Sam Spiegelman that UGA became the front runner following his spring game visit.
“I’ve been there a good amount of times, and I’ve gotten a great feel for it. I really like what they do there,” Nussmeier said back on May 14.
Nussmeier mentioned that he became excited about the Bruins. UCLA is delivering an aggressive recruiting blitz under new head coach Bob Chesney. But it’s Georgia head coach Kirby Smart winning over one of the best remaining available quarterbacks for 2027.
Landing Nussmeier makes up for a pivotal recruiting loss too for the Bulldogs. Peter Bourque rose as a four-star target for the SEC heavyweight, especially after decommitting from Michigan. Bourque pulled a big stunner, though, by opting for Virginia Tech and incoming head coach James Franklin back on May 14. That move boosted the Hokies’ national recruiting ranking to 19th overall for this cycle.
But Georgia now has its long-awaited ’27 option behind center. The Bulldogs also add the son of New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier, who also coached in the SEC with Alabama (2012-2013) and Florida (2015 to 2017).
