2 schools move to boycott Texas Tech amid Brendan Sorsby fallout
Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby won a preliminary injunction against the NCAA, allowing him to play in the 2026 season after being deemed ineligible by the NCAA due to his betting activity. The NCAA has filed a Notice of Appeal after the Sorbsy ruling on Monday.
Now, some ADs are taking matters into their own hands, according to Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports.
“Athletic officials from Nebraska and Georgia sent department-wide memos today instructing their coaches and sport deputies not to schedule Texas Tech. If games are already scheduled, the schools may work to cancel the matchups,” Dellenger posted on X, formerly Twitter.
This comes on the heels of some Big 12 ADs calling for a boycott of Texas Tech this upcoming season after the Sorsby ruling. Dellenger also released the message Georgia sent to coaches and staff.
“Based on recent developments, Georgia Athletics will not schedule future contests against Texas Tech until further notice. Please review your sport’s current schedules and future scheduling plans. If you have any contests currently scheduled against Texas Tech, or are actively engaged in scheduling discussions with Texas Tech, please notify your sport administrator as soon as possible so we can evaluate the situation and determine next steps. Effective immediately, no new contests should be scheduled against Texas Tech without prior approval from the Athletics Department,” the letter read.
Neither Georgia nor Nebraska is currently scheduled to face the Red Raiders in football this upcoming year or in the future. Further, according to the Texas Tech composite calendar, there are no meetings scheduled in the fall between the two schools and the Red Raiders in any sport.
As Georgia and Nebraska, two non-conference teams, have made the move to boycott Texas Tech, other schools could follow suit. If one of the teams on the current fall schedule for the Red Raiders decides to pull out of the game, there could be much deeper ramifications.
