1 free agent Jaguars must sign after failing to fix problem in 2026 NFL Draft
The 2025 season served as a breakout for the Jacksonville Jaguars. They won 13 games and earned the AFC’s three-seed. The Jaguars made huge moves leading up to and throughout the season. Their trade up for the number two selection and the right to draft two-way superstar Travis Hunter was polarizing. The team eventually made one of the biggest mid-season trades of the year when they dealt for Jakobi Meyers, too.
This offseason, though, the Jaguars have seemingly taken a step back. It disappointed many to hear the Jaguars were giving up on the idea of Hunter playing full-time on both sides of the field after just one year, and the team lost some great players in free agency. Travis Etienne and Devin Lloyd found new homes, yet the Jaguars weren’t able to bring much talent in through free agency in their own right.
The most disappointing part about the Jaguars’ offseason has been their performance in the 2026 NFL Draft, though. The team was given a D+ draft grade after what was arguably the worst seven rounds of selections of all 32 teams. General manager James Gladstone continuously reached on players and didn’t address some of Jacksonville’s biggest needs. For example, the team desperately needs more help in the secondary, but Jalen Huskey was the only defensive back that they drafted. He was taken in the third round, but many draft experts pinned him as a late-round prospect. The Jaguars might need to turn to free agency again in order to add another member to their defensive secondary, but who should they sign?
Taking a gamble on Trevon Diggs would be worth the risk

Even with Hunter converting to full-time cornerback duties, the Jaguars still need more cornerback depth. Trade deadline acquisition Greg Newsome left the team, as did safety Andrew Wigard. Now, Montaric Brown and Jourdan Lewis are expected to line up at the cornerback positions alongside Hunter.
The Jaguars ranked just 21st in pass defense last year, as they allowed 3,707 passing yards through 17 games. Their 22 interceptions were the second most in the sport, but Jacksonville is at risk of regressing in the turnover department. One available free agent who could fix their problems is Trevon Diggs.
Things haven’t been pretty for the former Pro Bowler in recent years. He missed much of 2024 with an ACL tear and a good chunk of time in 2025 because of concussion issues. The cornerback was most recently released by the Green Bay Packers, but his aggressive style of play has always made him a polarizing player. While Diggs can rack up the interception numbers, he has historically been vulnerable to giving up chunk plays and touchdowns, too.
The Jaguars could really use his defensive playmaking ability, though. It wasn’t all that long ago that Diggs led the NFL with 11 interceptions and was named a First-Team All-Pro. Now, over a year removed from a brutal knee injury, Diggs could remind fans why he was once viewed as one of the top cornerbacks in the NFL.
If Diggs returned to the form from his early days, perhaps the Jaguars could even be incentivized to give Hunter more reps on offense. After all, the team invested so much into him because of his two-way ability, not just because of what he brings as a cornerback. The Jaguars simply can’t be done adding to the roster, and a trade for Diggs would be a good start.
