You won’t believe how quickly Oilers’ Conor McDavid nets hat trick, 5 points

The Edmonton Oilers are headed for another run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. There is still work to be done in terms of seeding, though, so Connor McDavid and his teammates have something to play for. On Wednesday, McDavid certainly put his best foot forward against the San Jose Sharks.

McDavid scored Edmonton’s first goal, and assisted on its second. In the second period, he completed a hat trick and has five points on the night. At the time of this writing, Edmonton owns a 5-2 lead heading into the third period.

McDavid is one of the best players on the planet at this time. After a down year by his standards in 2024-25, the Oilers captain has returned to form in a major way. He entered play Wednesday leading the NHL with 128 points. He is now up to 133 points with his effort against the Sharks.

The Oilers are in a dogfight for the Pacific Division at this time. They are in first place by virtue of a tiebreaker. However, they are tied on points with the Vegas Golden Knights. And both teams are only one point ahead of the third-place Anaheim Ducks.
