York Ebor Festival day 4 tips (August 22, 2026)

It is such a shame it’s the final day of York’s Ebor Festival as it has been an enjoyable week! It is a fiercely competitive days action and I have dug out plenty of value so hopefully we can end on a high.

The Group 1 City Of York Stakes is the highlight on Saturday where Notable Speech is looking to bounce back.

The Group 3 Strensall Stakes that opens the card also looks a cracker with Damysus looking to better that run behind subsequent Juddmonte winner Item.

Best of luck if you’re following today!

Joe’s best horse racing betting tips for York Ebor Festival day 4

Find my top tips for Saturday 22nd August 2026 racing with odds from the best horse racing bookies below:

York 1.50 Sky Bet Strensall Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) (3YO plus) 1m1f

The market very much revolves around Damysus and he should have a good chance given that latest third has been franked with Item winning the Juddmonte.

I do think he is opposable though and I can see SABER STRIKE running a big race here under Tom Marquand. He was an eye-catcher given the way he finished behind Qirat and after a slow start could never land a blow at Glorious Goodwood.

If he builds on that again he should be in the mix and is a double-figure price.

Geryon is probably the solid one having won stylishly in Ireland and then bumped into the progressive Enceladus at Glorious Goodwood. Another run like that would see him in the mix so from an each way point of view he does tick plenty of boxes here.

🏇 Bet on SABER STRIKE each way at 10/1 with bet365 🏇

York 2.25 Sky Bet Melrose Handicap (Heritage Handicap) (GBBPlus Race) (Class 2) (3YO only) 1m6f

Again I’m happy to look away from the top of the market for this as while Infraad has solid claims he did look all out to hold off Hatteen at Glorious Goodwood and upped in trip again might struggle to see it out as well as some.

LIMESTONE still looks capable of more and if you forgive him that run in France last time where he had excuses he could be a big player in this. I was impressed with the attitude he showed to win at Ascot and he remains unexposed over this trip so could prove a tough nut to crack in the closing stages.

Into The Light impressed winning at Glorious Goodwood and was heavily backed too. He looks like he could have more to come as his stamina is drawn out and wasn’t overlooked easily. Mythical Bay is on a hat-trick and is another one who I expect to see getting seriously competitive.

York 3.00 Sky Bet City Of York Stakes (Group 1) (Class 1) (3YO plus) 7f

The betting looks wide open for this but I do see it as a battle between the market principals.

Notable Speech was so impressive winning the Lockinge but he let backers down in the Queen Anne and can be a hard horse to catch right. Obviously he has a big chance here but at a short price it is hard to know what horse will turn up.

I’ve backed ZAVATERI against as he gets weight being a 3yo and I didn’t think that was a bad run at all behind Bow Echo and co in the Sussex. If he builds on that he should have a great chance.

Lake Forest impressed winning the Lennox and then didn’t get the best run in the Sussex and it probably came soon enough. He is a nice horse though and if things pan out favourably here he could have a squeak.

Ten Bob Tony has been a remarkable horse for connections and after winning at Epsom and Royal Ascot ran a cracker in the Sussex so cannot be discounted here either.

🏇 Bet on ZAVATERI each way at 6/1 with Betfred 🏇

York 3.35 Sky Bet Ebor Handicap (Heritage Handicap) (GBBPlus Race) (Class 2) (4YO plus) 1m6f

I was with DAIQUIRI BAY at Royal Ascot and I thought he did really well to get up given how much ground he had to make up and the fact he came so wide. His form is progressive and with more to come over this sort of trip I can see him landing the hat-trick here.

I was pleasantly surprised to see him at a double-figure price as I thought that looked huge. I saw an interview with Rossa Ryan earlier in the week and he said he was looking forward to riding him so I’m confident he will run a big race here.

Hopewell Rock took a step forward to beat Small Fry at Glorious Goodwood and that horse was an impressive winner here earlier in the week so the form has been given a big boost. He was behind the selection at Newmarket earlier in the season so has ground to make up but looks sure to run well and is the danger.

Tarriance is another one I can see getting involved in another good race.

🏇 Bet on DAIQUIRI BAY each way at 11/1 with BOYLE Sports 🏇

York 4.10 Sky Bet Constantine Handicap (Heritage Handicap) (Class 2) (3YO plus) 6f

I probably found this the trickiest race of the day to try and work out and REALIGN might be worth chancing. He is around 16/1 at the time of writing and looks too big to leave alone.

He obviously failed to give his best at Glorious Goodwood last time but that track can catch some horses out and I’m happy to put a line through that. He had been impressing before that winning at Carlisle and then running well behind Double Rush at Royal Ascot.

If he bounces back he will definitely run better than his price suggests.

Air Force One impressed beating Corolla Point here earlier in the week and is clearly thriving so if turned out again for this would have to be respected.

Red Spells Danger impressed reversing form with Thunder Call at Ascot last time and another run like that could see him get involved here too but no easy task.

York 4.45 Julia Graves Roses Stakes (Listed) (Class 1) (2YO only) 5f

I thought DUBAI CHAMPION was a bit unlucky to get nailed at Glorious Goodwood. He seemed to travel through that race like the best horse in it and his win over Concert Pitch who has won since at Hamilton before that was impressive.

He looks capable of better again and it is no surprise to see him near the top of the market. Ryan Moore is booked and I expect his price to contract somewhat the closer we get to post time.

Sale Shark looks capable of a big run under Oisin Murphy as he seems to have finished behind the right horses so far.

Adonius won his first three starts and then found just Pershaada too good at Glorious Goodwood so if improving again would be a danger to all in this.

Hickory Lad would be capable but would probably need everything to drop right from a win point of view.

🏇 Bet on DUBAI CHAMPION each way at 7/1 with Midnite 🏇

York 5.20 Sky Bet Dav Reid Finale Handicap (Heritage Handicap) (GBBPlus Race) (Class 2) (3YO plus) 1m21/2f

Another fiercely competitive handicap and MR SWIVELL stands out at a monster price. I know he wasn’t at his best at Thirsk last time but he chased home The Lost King before that who we saw win impressively here earlier in the week so if bouncing back to that sort of form could definitely go better than his odds suggest.

Cieren Fallon rides and he appeals as being overpriced in a race where plenty have chances.

Raammee is likely to go off favourite as he has an unexposed profile and impressed beating Hand Of God at this track last month. He could improve again but no value in his price.

Dubawi colt Accredit I probably fear more as he bolted up at Haydock obviously as expected but now handicapping could take a sizeable step forward once more.

🏇 Bet on MR SWIVELL each way at 18/1 with Tote 🏇

My top tip for day 4 of York Ebor Festival

As you can see it is a fiercely competitive card at York on Saturday so I have backed my two best bets in an each way double at a huge 40/1. LIMESTONE seems to have stamina in abundance and if back to his best will run a big one.

I have doubled him up with ZAVATERI who still gives the impression he has another big run in him.

🏇 Bet an Each Way Double on LIMESTONE and ZAVATERI at 40/1 with bet365 🏇
