Yankees manager Aaron Boone provides crucial Giancarlo Stanton, Jasson Dominguez injury updates

As the New York Yankees play their most crucial series of the first two months of the season against the first-place Tampa Bay Rays, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that both Giancarlo Stanton and Jasson Dominguez are beginning to show signs of progress from early-season injuries.

Stanton has a low-grade calf strain that has kept him out of the lineup since April 24. Boone said he will be examined in the upcoming week to see if he can start running again. The Yankees have been bypassed by the Rays in the American League East, and they could use Stanton’s power bat back in the lineup.

Dominguez has made some progress and he is doing some tee and toss exercises. If he continues to make progress, Boone reports that he could see some action the first week of June at the minor league level.

The Yankees clearly are breathing a sigh of relief as Gerrit Cole returned to active duty Friday night. He made his first big-league appearance since Game 5 of the 2024 World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Cole looked sharp in shutting down the Rays for the first six innings of the game, holding them to two hits. He walked three batters and struck out two batters.

Stanton was slashing .256/.302/.422 in 24 games before he suffered his hamstring strain. He had 3 home runs and 14 RBI. Stanton has been troubled by injuries throughout his nine seasons with the Yankees. He hit 24 home runs and drove in 66 runs last year even though he played in just 77 games.
