Yankees get positive Giancarlo Stanton injury update before Royals finale
The New York Yankees received an encouraging injury update on Giancarlo Stanton before Wednesday’s series finale against the Kansas City Royals at Kauffman Stadium.
The Yankees entered Wednesday’s finale with a 33-22 record after taking the first two games of the series in Kansas City. New York opened the set with a 4-3 comeback win Monday, then overpowered the Royals in a 15-1 rout Tuesday. They also prepared for star pitcher Gerrit Cole’s second start of the season while attempting to extend their winning streak over the Royals to 14 games.
Stanton has been out since April 24, when he suffered a right calf strain against the Houston Astros. Before landing on the injured list, he was batting .256 with three home runs, 14 RBI and a .724 OPS in 24 games. His absence took a proven power presence out of the middle of the Yankees’ lineup.
USA Today’s Pete Caldera took to his X, formerly Twitter, and shared the update from the manager on the veteran slugger’s status a couple of hours before first pitch.
“Per Boone, latest comparison MRI on Giancarlo Stanton’s right calf showed ‘a lot of improvement.’
Yankees plan is to introduce a running program this week.”

The update was the clearest sign yet that the 2017 NL MVP is moving closer to the next stage of his recovery. Previous reports indicated he had continued hitting work and conditioning, but running had not yet been added to his rehab process.
The Yankees have stayed near the top of the AL East despite dealing with multiple injuries, and Stanton’s eventual return would deepen an already productive lineup. His power and experience remain valuable for a team trying to separate in the division and strengthen its postseason position.
If the five-time MLB All-Star responds well to the running program, he could move closer to a rehab assignment and a possible early-to-mid June return. For a Yankees team already building momentum, his progress gives New York another reason for optimism.
