Yankees’ Gary Sheffield Jr. demands New York trade for Tarik Skubal
The New York Yankees have played some solid baseball this season, but there are still some areas they can improve. With Tarik Skubal still hearing his name in trade rumors, the Yankees might be a team that’s looking to explore what it takes to acquire him. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like most fans are on the bandwagon of getting him, but Gary Sheffield of the Yankees Unloaded podcast believes that everyone should be hammering for the pitcher.
“The ‘we don’t need Tarik Skubal’ crowd is oddly quiet. Yes we need a catcher and pen. The point remains just as strong that Cam Schlittler needs a running mate and it’s not the guy that was shelled during last year’s postseason series with Toronto,” Sheffield wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
A fan responded to Sheffield with, “Never expected Cole to comeback this year as even a #2. Need arms in the pen, need to keep developing Escarra, and need to designate Volpe. Skubal still aint the answer, especially if we are selling our future for a 3 month rental.”
That didn’t matter to Sheffield, and he still believes that Skubal is the one who can help solve their problems.
“Skubal is the answer, actually. Him being a rental does not matter. If you don’t want him to be a rental re-sign him when the lockout concludes. That simple,” Sheffield wrote.
Everyone knows what special talent Skubal is, and if you can get him, you do it. There are questions surrounding whether he’ll re-sign with the team he’s traded to, but some may be willing to take the risk. If the Yankees are able to acquire Skubal, that could be the move that puts them over the top for the rest of the season.
